Ensuring Electrical Safety for Your Home or Business

At Nifty Fixes North East, we understand that electrical safety is paramount. Our professional In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Appliances—commonly known as Portable Appliance Testing (PAT Testing)—is a crucial service designed to protect people from potential electrical hazards in the workplace, rental properties, and residential homes.

Our Comprehensive Service

Our service is a meticulous and thorough process designed to ensure the safety and functionality of your electrical appliances. For each item, we perform the following:
  • Visual Inspection: A detailed check of the appliance’s cable, plug, and casing for any signs of damage, wear, or incorrect wiring.
  • Electrical Tests: A series of mandatory electrical tests using calibrated and certified equipment to measure insulation resistance, earth continuity, and polarity.
  • Minor Repairs: We include minor repairs at no additional cost for the first three appliances that require a simple fix (e.g., replacing a plug, re-wiring a plug, or replacing a fuse). Additional repairs can be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Final Report: Upon completion, you will receive a digital report detailing the results of each test, including a certificate of compliance for your records.
Additional Service:
  • We can also provide socket checks at a rate of £1 per socket.

For Landlords: Your Legal and Moral Obligation

As a landlord, you have a legal duty of care to ensure the safety of your tenants. While there is no specific UK law that mandates PAT testing for landlords, the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020 requires landlords to ensure that their electrical installations are safe. Demonstrating a proactive approach to appliance safety through regular PAT testing is an excellent way to fulfill this obligation and provide a safe living environment for your tenants.
  • Protect Your Tenants: Regular testing helps to identify and mitigate risks from faulty appliances, ensuring your tenants are safe from electrical hazards.
  • Meet Your Duty of Care: PAT testing provides a documented record of your efforts to maintain a safe property, protecting you from potential legal action in the event of an accident.
  • Peace of Mind: Knowing that the appliances you provide are safe gives you and your tenants confidence and peace of mind.

For Commercial Customers: Maintaining a Safe Workplace

The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 places a responsibility on employers to ensure the safety of their employees. A key part of this is maintaining electrical equipment in a safe condition. Regular PAT testing is a fundamental component of your workplace’s health and safety policy, helping you to protect your staff, customers, and business assets.
  • Reduce Risk of Injury: Faulty electrical appliances are a major cause of workplace accidents. Regular testing helps to prevent electric shocks and fires.
  • Ensure Legal Compliance: PAT testing demonstrates your commitment to health and safety regulations, helping you to avoid potential fines and legal repercussions.
  • Minimise Business Disruption: Proactively identifying and repairing faulty equipment prevents unexpected breakdowns that can disrupt your operations and lead to costly downtime.
  • Protect Your Insurance: Many insurance policies require businesses to maintain their electrical equipment to a high standard. A record of regular PAT testing can be crucial for a successful insurance claim.

For Residential Customers: Safety for You and Your Family

While there is no legal requirement for PAT testing in residential homes, it is a smart and responsible choice for anyone who values the safety of their family. Faulty appliances can pose a serious risk, and a quick, affordable test can provide invaluable peace of mind.
  • Protect Your Loved Ones: From the kitchen toaster to the living room lamp, our service ensures that the appliances you use daily are safe and free from hidden faults.
  • Prevent Fires and Shocks: Many electrical fires are caused by faulty appliances. Our testing can identify these issues before they become a hazard.
  • Get Peace of Mind: Knowing that your home is electrically safe allows you to relax and enjoy your living space without worry.
